On July 8, 2026, Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 340 was adopted, introducing amendments and additions to the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The amendments are aimed at improving the efficiency of environmental regulation, supporting investment activities, and strengthening state environmental control.

What will change? The deadlines for undergoing environmental procedures for investment projects are being reduced thanks to the optimization of administrative processes while maintaining all environmental requirements.

Legal gaps in the application of the Environmental Code are being eliminated. The starting point of negative impact on the environment has been established by law, which will ensure uniform application of standards, transparent calculation of environmental damage, and increase the effectiveness of state control.

State environmental control is being improved: digitalization is expanding, direct contact between an environmental inspector and a natural resource user is minimized, and the transparency and objectivity of control procedures are being enhanced.

The facility categorization system is being updated. This will allow focusing control on enterprises with high environmental risk while simultaneously reducing the administrative burden on facilities that have a minimal impact on the environment.
